Kat de Blois is a Visual Story Director, living between Paris and New York. She works with producers, companies, and private clients to bring concepts to life through strong creative direction and innovative artistic collaboration. Her approach is to nurture the creative process so that imaginative visions are born, thus bringing theatre, dance, and music performances from an initial thought to physical showmanship.

Kat wasn’t actually born on the Broadway stage, it just feels like it.

Her innate love for dancing became apparent at a very young age in New Jersey, only a transit ride away from the Great White Way.  With a BFA from the Boston Conservatory of Music, her dancer singer career began in New York working in Stage, Television, and Film. She performed with various choreographers and composers, including Patricia Birch, Daniel Lewis, José Limon, Anna Sokolow, Twlya Tharp, Leonard Bernstein and Jules Styne.

Directed by Jerome Robbins, she played Anybodys in the first revival tour of West Side Story, and her European chapter began. The show traveled across the continent and Kat set up residence in Paris, to teach contemporary dance and musical comedy, to choreograph and perform in numerous productions such as Salut Les Mickey, Emilie Jolie, Téléfolies, Star 90, Paradis Latin, and NRJ12-Tellement Vrai.

After acting as resident artistic director of Cats in Paris, winner of the 1989 Molière Award for Best Musical, she then assisted in the creation of the first bilingual production of Cats in English and German, in Zurich.

Kat joined the Walt Disney Company in 1991 and adventured into the creations of Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney Studios Park, and Hong Kong Disneyland. She directed and choreographed many shows and parades including Tarzan, The Main Street Electrical Parade, Disney’s Fantillusion, Rock Shock, Pocahontas, and Disney Classics, the Music and the Magic.

Her curiosity and wild imagination led her to be the first to use innovative methods to wow the crowds in Disney’s special events, such as The Tower of Terror Inauguration, when 3D architectural mapping techniques were introduced in a Disney park for the very first time. She mixed East and West acrobatic and contemporary choreography with her direction of the Shandong National Chinese Circus for a European capitals tour for the premier of the Disney film Mulan.

Kat went on to become the Creative Director of the Entertainment Division for Disneyland Paris and a founding member of the Creative Council for Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment until 2016.

As an associate of la Fédération Française de Danse, she participates as choreographer and jury member in many international performing arts conventions.

Today Kat creates unique and innovative original theatrical performances. Fascinated by the rich history of 19th century Paris, she is currently working on a musical comedy, In the Wash ! for which she is the principal author and artistic visionary. This lively fresco brings together international talents to tell the exciting and emancipating story of the rebellious genesis of the Cancan dance.

Kat de Blois, directeur artistique de spectacle vivant, vit entre Paris et New York. Elle travaille avec des producteurs, des entreprises et des clients privés pour amener sur scène leurs projets et propose une collaboration ciblée et innovante avec d’autres artistes. Elle nourrit le processus créatif pour transformer les visions imaginaires en scènes théâtrales. Texte, danse, musique, nouvelles technologies incarnent le concept  initial.

Dès ses premiers pas à Trenton, New Jersey, Kat danse et créé ses propres spectacles si bien qu’on la croirait née à Broadway. Après avoir obtenu son diplôme du conservatoire de musique de Boston, elle commence sa carrière  de danseuse et chanteuse à New York au théâtre, à la télévision et au cinéma. Elle travaille avec plusieurs chorégraphes et compositeurs notamment  Patricia Birch, Daniel Lewis, José Limon, Anna Sokolow, Twyla Tharp, Leonard Bernstein et Jules Styne. 

Engagée par Jérôme Robbins, elle interprète le rôle de Anybodys lors de la tournée de la recréation de West Side Story, ce qui détermine son arrivée en Europe. Le spectacle voyage à travers le continent. Kat établit sa résidence à Paris, enseigne la danse contemporaine et la comédie musicale. Elle chorégraphie et joue dans de nombreux spectacles tels que  Salut Les Mickey, Emilie Jolie, Téléfolies, Star 90, Paradis Latin, et NRJ12-Tellement Vrai.

A Paris, elle est metteur en scène résidente de Cats, meilleur spectacle musical gagnant le Molière de 1989, puis est assistante à Zurich du metteur en scène pour la création de la première production de Cats bilingue en anglais et allemand.

En 1991 Kat rejoint la Walt Disney Company puis participe aux aventures de la création de Disneyland Paris, du Walt Disney Studios Parc, et de Hong Kong Disneyland. Elle contribue à la direction artistique des évènements spéciaux tel que The Tower of Terror Inauguration où pour la première fois chez Disney, sont utilisées des techniques de mapping architectural en 3D.

En Chine, à l’occasion de la première du film Disney’s Mulan elle dirige la troupe du Shandong National Chinese Circus avec qui elle conjugue acrobatie orientale et chorégraphie contemporaine occidentale, pour la tournée dans les capitales européennes.

Membre fondateur du Creative Council for Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment, Kat devient directeur créatif de la division spectacles à Disneyland Paris jusqu’en 2016.

Elle participe à de nombreuses rencontres internationales en tant que chorégraphe et jury pour la Fédération Française de Danse.

Aujourd’hui Kat réalise des créations scéniques originales uniques et innovantes. Fascinée par l’histoire du Paris du XIXème siècle, elle développe actuellement  la comédie musicale In The Wash ! (Le Lavoir aux Cancans), dont elle est le principal auteur et concepteur. Cette fresque fait appel aux talents internationaux pour magnifier la genèse inconnue et inédite de la célèbre danse du Cancan.
